A quick trip to the drugstore

Drugstore Haul

This morning, I took a quick detour to Shoppers Drug Mart. I only went in to mail in a form to my insurance agent, but what ended up happening was $110 of damage to my bank account.Thankfully, most things I bought were on sale. At least that’s what I keep telling myself.

I can honestly say that I’ve never tried any of these products, but I’ve heard many good things. This is especially the case with the Simple Micellar Water ($7.99 on sale), which is apparently a huge thing in the YouTube community. The thing I like about micellar waters like Bioderma is how gentle they are to the skin. Right now, I’m experiencing a dry spell with my skin, so something as gentle as this really helps. I like to use them after I deep cleanse my face with the Philosophy Purity cleanser and the Michael Todd Charcoal cleanser.

I also bought a new St. Ives body lotion ($3.99 on sale) because it was on sale and my tattoos are looking a little dry recently. This is probably because I’ve completed neglected my skincare routine. I normally use the oatmeal and shea butter formula (I’ve used up at least 10 of these in the last two years) but the only one left on the shelves was the Vitamin E and Avocado body lotion. I’ve often heard that avocados are great as moisturizers so I’m expecting great things from this.

I have no idea what to expect from the L’Oreal power moisture shampoo (REG $12.49 on sale for $6.49)and Garnier Fructis fortifying conditioner in grapefruit (REG $6.49 on sale for $3.29), but they were in the sale section (and because I am running out of my ogx shampoo and conditioner). Some quick research showed me some mixed reviews for both products but I will do an update post if they are any good. I knew there was a reason why they were so cheap.

I am quite ashamed to say that I’ve never given any Canadian drugstore brand a chance. After a midnight blogpost binge, I decided that now was the time. I started with Quo.

Many blogs recommended their makeup brushes, but I wanted to try their makeup. I probably spent 45 minutes pacing the display, trying on their different foundations, but the only products that had the right colour match for me were their BB and CC cream. Edit: I was between shades for their anti-aging formula, but I figured it really wasn’t worth the hassle to buy two shades.

As a whole, I found their products to be very affordable, but of varying quality – I purchased the mineral eyeshadow quad in Downtown Brown ($20), liquid illuminator ($20/30ml)), and CC cream in light ($25/ 50ml). The eyeshadows were especially pigmented, so I was very impressed. I can’t say the wearing power is too great (I swatched them on my arms in the store and about an hour in, it’s already wearing off.) As for the CC cream, it comes out as a white liquid that activates at the touch. It feels lightweight but I feel like I could get some good coverage out of it.
